Buyers beware when considering a cheap treadmill from mass merchandisers or home shopping networks. These machines are not all that durable and in the long run they are not always a good value.

Cheap Treadmill Motors

When comparing features on a cheap treadmill, not all claims are equal. For example, motor ratings can have the same horse power, but in actuality the cheap treadmill can have a far inferior motor. In reality there is no standard rating for treadmill motors, therefore companies selling a cheap treadmill can claim the motor has any power they wish.

Overall a cheap treadmill will significantly lack in quality. One example is frames. On a cheap model the frames are built so flimsy that they will often bend when stress is applied. Another intricate part of a treadmill is the belt and deck. The constant pounding resulting from walking and running, wear down these components. Another consideration is the running surface. A cheap treadmill with have a mediocre running surface that does little to cushion your impact. In some cases it feels like you are running on concrete. These inferior running surfaces can cause injuries to your joints, particularly your knees, ankles and lower back.

You'll find many cheap treadmills come with a 90-day parts and labor warranty. That says something about the quality of the equipment and their durability. In contrast, their are treadmills available for $1,500 that come with lifetme motor, 5-year parts and 2-year labor coverage. You would have to imagine that treadmill is built to last.

A cheap treadmill has a price that looks enticing, but if you are serious about getting in shape, it is a matter of time before it self destructs. A guideline for buying a treadmill should be a minimum $1,000 for walking and $1,500 for running. Check out the warranty, the service agreement and the overall reputation of the company.
