Epic EL 1710 Elliptical Trainer Review

2012 Elliptical Trainer Reviews     |     "Best Buy" Elliptical Trainers

The Epic EL 1710 elliptical trainer is the version built by Icon Fitness specifically for Costco.  Icon Fitness also builds NordicTrack and ProForm and they both have a similar version of the Epic EL 1710.  These all have proven to be popular models for a variety of reasons, which include the numerous features that are standard.

Note: Also check out the comparable NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 PRO. Built by the same company and our "Best Buy" choice for under $1,000. Includes features found on commercial Precor models.

Epic EL 1710 Elliptical Trainer Features...

Power Incline — The power incline is similar to the incline you find on a treadmill.  It offers two benefits.  First, when you incline the elliptical motion you get a much more intense cardio workout.  It is like walking or running up a hill.  Second, as you incline the motion you target additional lower body muscles.  The power incline, combined with the upper body exercise feature, allows you to get a full body workout.  Also, they mention that you have an 18"-20" adjustable stride.  Actually the stride changes length as you raise the incline.

iFit Live Compatible — iFit Live gives your elliptical trainer the ability to  communicate with the Internet (WiFi is required). You can trace routes on Google Maps and the Epic EL 1710 will simulate the terrain with the incline feature on the elliptical. You can also access a list of famous trails and walks through cityscapes. You can physically and visually experience exercising throughout the world.

The other aspect of iFit Live is the ability to get customized workouts. You go to iFit.com and define your fitness goals. An eight-week workout program is downloaded onto your elliptical trainer. It is progressive in nature and includes audio coaching. Several of the workout routines were designed by celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels. After every workout you stats are downloaded to your iFit.com so you can track your progress.

You need to buy an optional module for iFit Live and to get the full visual impact of Google Maps you will need to place a laptop or smartphone on your console.

Epic EL 1710 Elliptical Trainer ConsoleCompatible Music Port for iPod — The Epic EL 1710 includes built-in speakers and the ability to plug in your iPod or MP3 compatible player.

Stable and Solid — Based on the design and the unit weight the Epic EL 1710 elliptical trainer has a solid feel. It may not be as stable as a commercial model, but for the price it is one of the heavier and more solid machines available.

Built-in Fan — This feature is very popular with customers and having a fan built into the console allows you to direct the breeze at your core.

Our Review — Epic EL 1710 Elliptical Trainer

The rear drive elliptical trainers from Icon Fitness have been very popular and in fact the NordicTrack versions are some of the most popular elliptical trainers at the $800-$1,000 price range.  What makes them a success is the fact that they have more features than the competition, offer a smoother and more natural elliptical stride and are low maintenance machines.  You won't find a better deal at this price range.
