8.5 Elliptical Trainer Review
We
would all like to drive luxury cars like Lexus and BMW, but some of us can only
afford a Kia Rio. Similarly, if you are in the market for an elliptical, but you
have a very limited budget, you will have to make some concessions. For those
who have less than $500 the Image 8.5 elliptical trainer is one of the better
values.
I recommend the Image 8.5 with reservations. Those reservations
are, you are getting a budget elliptical built with budget components. It is simple
economics. For around $350 what do you expect? If
you read my reviews, you know I encourage people to buy quality machines that
are durable, and built to last. However, if you want to get into shape and lose
weight, I would rather see you get a cheap machine than nothing at all. And, if
you are not totally committed to getting back into shape, a $350 clothes hanger
is a much better value than a $2,000 one.
What to Expect with the Image
8.5With an elliptical at this price range,
you are more likely to have service issue. Although, in comparison to a treadmill,
generally have less service problems. There are fewer moving parts, and the low-impact
workout places less strain on the machine. The Image 8.5 comes with a 90-day parts
and labor warranty, after that you are on your own. You can purchase an extended
option.
The Image 8.5 elliptical is a
light-weight machine, so if you are hefty this may not be the most stable elliptical
when you exercise.
 It
comes with six workout programs, built-in fans and EKG grip pulse sensors that
track your pulse readout your target heart rate. It also has a reasonable 17.5"
stride. Most models in this price range have considerably smaller strides that
are choppy and bouncy. It is also equipped with iFit technology. This allows you
to download programs designed by fitness trainers, which automatically control
the elliptical with challenging workouts. Let's
talk about customer service. This is where Image and the parent company Icon,
fall short. In fact, I recently conveyed my concerns through a third party, and
was told the CEO wants the improvement of customer service to be their #1 concern.
Regardless, you can't forget you are only paying $350. If you want a more durable
machine, with better service and a longer warranty I can recommend the Sole E55
for $1,500. That is a lot more money. |
