NordicTrack ASR 630 Elliptical Review

NordicTrack ASR 630 elliptical trainerIf you are in the market for an elliptical trainer and your budget is tight, first, you want to stay away for the very cheap models. The sub $500 machines. In general, their engineering is poor and they use cheap components. They are not stable, nor are they durable.

In the $500+ price range the quality improves as does the stability. These are still not heavy-duty ellipticals, and they have limitations, but if you have limited funds and you are looking for a starter elliptical, NordicTrack is a good place to look.

With regards to the NordicTrack ARS 630, you are getting an above average budget elliptical at an appealing price. What makes this particular model attractive is the list of features. And that is where NordicTrack excels - they give you more for less!

NordicTrack ARS 630 Elliptical Features.

iFit Technology - When I was at the NordicTrack corporate headquarters I asked if the iFit technology was popular with their customers. The answer was an affirmative yes. In fact, they have an iFit web site that has forums where users compare notes and ask questions.

iFit is a series exercise programs designed by personal trainers. You purchase cards that you insert into the machine. The level of exertion is controlled, and there is audio coaching. There are different categories of workouts that focus on different goals like weight loss or performance. Within the categories, you have different levels of progress. You start at the beginning and work you way up. Just as if you had a personal trainer. Each card covers an 8-week progressive course.

Adjustable Stride - By adjusting the stride, you can focus and tone specific lower body muscles. The NordicTrack ASR 630 lets you adjust the stride to 13", 15" or 18" lengths. The adjustable stride also allows individuals of different height to find the optimun length.

Speakers with iPod Input - I personally exercise to music, and it is proven to motivate people, unless it is Italian operas. Having the speakers positioned right in front of you is a plus. It is better than trying to workout with headphones.

Built-in Fan - According to NordicTrack, this is another popular item on their elliptical trainers. It targets your core, which does a better job of cooling you down.

Folding Feature - When folded you save around 3'. It also makes it easier to move when it is folded. When I was on this machine, I found that the folding feature did not comprise on the stability of the frame.

Oversize Pedals - The over sized cushioned pedals allow you some leeway to move your feet to a position that provides the most comfort.

Our Review - NordicTrack ASR 630 Elliptical Trainer

For around $600 this is a good value, but you must realize this is a budget elliptical with limitations. For example, I feel the 275 lbs. user limit is high, and this model is not a good choice for a tall individual. Obviously the ASR 630 will not be as stable as a higher price machine. However, for the price this is probably one of the better ellipticals on the market. And the features mentioned above make it an attractive offer.

If you can afford it, upgrade to a heavier duty model. If you can't, then this is a good starter elliptical trainer. A final note, protect your investment with their extended warranty. The cost is reasonable.
