NordicTrack ASR 700
Elliptical Review
When the the NordicTrack ARS 700 is selling for around $800 or less, it is worth considering. It has a relatively smooth elliptical motion for a budget machine. Granted, there
is no comparison to a commercial grade Life Fitness or Precor
elliptical, but not everyone has $3,500 or more to dish out.
I tried this front drive model when I was at their corporate
headquarters and was impressed with the overall construction.
Note: As of 3/11/10 the NordicTrack ASR 700 was selling for $599 with shipping. Go to www.NordicTrack.com for the latest price.
These are the features I like on the NordicTrack ASR 700
ifit®
Workout Card Technology - The ifit technology is one of
the better ideas to come out of the fitness equipment industry.
You get a series of interactive workout cards you plug in the
machine. They provide an 8-week program designed to achieve
specific fitness goals.
The programs are designed by Certified Personal Trainers. The
programs adjust the speed and incline. They include the voice
of the trainer who takes you through each workout - providing
advice and inspiration. (ifit cards sold separately).
18" Elliptical Stride - The 18" stride length
is ideal for individuals of moderate height. It gives a smooth
elliptical motion, that is not too bouncy. If you are over 6'
you may want to consider a machine with a 20" stride.
Built-in
Speakers and iPod Compatible - Music is a great motivator
and with the ARS 700 you have speakers built into the console.
14 Workout Programs - You get a variety of challenging
programs to help you lose weight and get into shape. The programs
automatically adjust the resistance to simulate different forms
of exercising like hill climbing.
Heart Monitor - Most ellipticals have some form of heart
monitor, but few have the sensors built into the moveable upper
handle bars. This allows you to track your heart rate without
having to hold on to stationary handles.
Built-in Video Game - I find this feature of nominal
value, but it is different. As you workout you can play a video
games with buttons on the handlebars. Your choices are Calorie
Destroyer, Fat Blocker, Black Jack and Texas Hold
'Em. The harder you work, the easier the game becomes.
Our Review - NordicTrack ASR 700 Ellliptical
At $699 with shipping, you will be hard pressed to find a comparable
deal. At this budget price you get a nice machine with some
decent features. I don't expect this deal to last long.
It should be noted that this elliptical is designed for moderate
use, and although they rate it up to 275 lbs. user weight, I
would top out at 225 lbs.
Also, you will probably want to increase the warranty coverage
to at least two years. If it breaks, it is their responsibility
for two years or more.
