NordicTrack Commercial 1300 Elliptical Review

No longer available - see the AudioStrider 990 Pro

nordictrack commercial 1300 elliptical trainer review and ratingKeeping up with all the new NordicTrack elliptical trainers can be a daunting task. They are constantly mixing and matching components and coming up with new variations. In the case of the NordicTrack Commercial 1300, it appears they used the base of the popular and award winning NordicTrack AudioStrider 990, which is an elliptical with a power incline feature.

The difference between the two is the price and several add-on features. As of the writing of the review, the Commercial 1300 was selling for a couple hundred less.

Before I get into the features, I want to discuss the name of this elliptical, the NordicTrack "Commercial" 1300. I realize the company wants to imply that this is a durable machine, however I feel they do a disservice when they suggest an elliptical for under $1,000 is commercial quality.

Although the Commercial 1300 is a new elliptical without a service record, the similar model, the AudioStrider 990, has a good track record for service. However, neither of these ellipticals are commercial quality. They are not designed to run for hours on end, seven days a week. And, they are not built to handle users up to 350 lbs. I would max out the user weight at around 230 lbs.

If you want a commercial grade elliptical, plan to spend at least $3,000. I mention this, because I like to manage your expectations.

Features of the NordicTrack Commercial 1300.

Power Incline - This is a killer app. It really adds a whole new dimension to elliptical exercising. Kicking up the incline, like with a treadmill, will increase the intensity of your workout. It will also target different parts of your lower body, like glutes, calves, hamstrings and quads.

18" Elliptical Stride - This length is comfortable for average height individuals. For people taller than 5'10", you may want to consider a longer 20" stride.

18 Preprogrammed Workouts - NordicTrack is usually generous with their installed workouts. In the past, I manually controlled my workouts, but these days I appreciate the variation and challenges the installed exercises provide. I use a different one each time I exercise. These programs control the resistance level of your machine. You also get to 2 "Create and Save" programs that allow you to build your own workout and save it.

nordictrack commercial elite consoleClearView Console -There are several features I like on this console. First, I appreciate the simplicity. You don't need a degree in programming to operate it. I also like how you can select different programs that will focus on your glutes, calves, hamstring, quads, heart or upper body. Finally, the fan is a plus. When I was out to the NordicTrack offices, they mentioned this is one of the most popular features on their machines. They design the fans to target your core, another term for your chest. Studies show by cooling down your core you can actually exercise longer.

Warranty - This is where NordicTrack falls short. They give you a whimpy 90-day parts and labor warranty. I highly recommend you upgrade it to 1-2 years. The expense is not that much.

Our Review - NordicTrack Commercial 1300 Elliptical Trainer

Here is the deal. If you are sold on the power incline feature, and you have a $1,000 or less to spend, either the Commercial 1300 or the AudioStrider 990 is a good value - depending on their current price. I prefer the console on the 1300, but the 990 comes with a better warranty and a built-in sound system. In addition, it folds.

Both our good buys, it is a matter of comparing the price and your desired features.
