The NordicTrack E 5.7 elliptical trainer is their entry level model. It sells at a value price and includes several decent features, however, there are some limitations as with any budget elliptical. The primary concern is the overall weight of the machine and the stability. Although they place the user weight limit at 300 lbs., being conservative I would place the limit at around 220 lbs. Also, I would recommend the NordicTrack E 5.7 for moderate users, not individuals who like to push their crosstraining to intense levels.
Note: The NordicTrack E 5.7 elliptical trainer is currently out of stock. See the NordicTrack Elliptical Reviews for the latest models.
NordicTrack E5.7 Elliptical Trainer Features...
Incline Ramp with Variable Stride — The NordicTrack E 5.7 allows you to adjust the incline of the ramp and in the process increase the stride length from 18" to 20". First, when you increase the incline you get a more intense workout. Just like going up a hill. In addition, you target more lower muscles. An elliptical trainer with a fixed elliptical motion limits your workout. With the ability to incline the elliptical stride you are able to target glutes, quads and calves.
15 Lb. Flywheel — At 15 lbs. the flywheel is not going to give you that smooth, natural stride you would get from higher priced models, although it is much better than some of the cheaper models that are out there.
Oversized Foot Pedals — The advantage is that you have more area to find a comfort zone for your feet.
Front Drive Design —There are front, rear and center drive elliptical trainers. Each has advantages. With the front design machines they tend to be more compact and are often easier to mount and dismount.
iFit Live Compatible — iFit Live really separates NordicTrack from the competition. The technology allows your elliptical to communicate with the Internet. There are primarily two features.
Personalized Workout Programs — You create a fitness goal profile ifit.com, such as losing a certain amount of weight or training for a race, and iFit downloads a progressive workout routine that controls the incline of your elliptical and includes audio coaching from personal trainers, including Jillian Michaels. After your workout the NordicTrack E5.7 trainer feeds back your stats to your online account, allowing to your track your progress. And it has been proven that people who track their progress increase their chances of achieving their goals.
Simulate Running outside with Google Maps — This feature of iFit Live is ingenious. You can map out a route on Google Maps and the NordicTrack E5.7 with simulate the terrain. I tried this out when I was at their corporate offices and was able to run up and down streets in my neighborhood. By placing a laptop or a smartphone on the console, you can watch your progress. In fact, if it is a route that Google has a street view, you see the sites as if you are actually running down the street. Who comes up with this stuff? There is an additional cost for the WiFi module, the cost includes a 12 month subscription.
20 PreSet Workout Applications — There are 10 calorie burn workouts, and 10 performance workouts, giving you a good variety of challenges.
Speakers with MP3 Input — The sound is by no means exceptional, but you have the benefit of the speakers pointing right at you.
Warranty — You get 1 year parts and 1 year labor coverage. Some manufacturers at this price range offer only 90 day warranties.
Our Review — NordicTrack E 5.7 Elliptical Trainer
The purpose of this review is to moderate your expectations. Too often people buy elliptical trainers in this price range and expect almost commercial grade quality. The NordicTrack E 5.7 is not commercial grade. It will neither have the feel or stability of a more expensive model. However, for $599 you are probably not going to find a better elliptical. You will definitely not find one with the numerous options that are available on the E 5.7.
