With Adjustable Power Incline
The NordicTrack E7.1 elliptical trainer is their new budget entry model, but here is some insider information I gained when I was at their corporate headquarters. It has many of the same features found on a couple of their more expensive models. That includes a power incline, adjustable stride, iFit Live compatibility, speakers, fan and oversized pedals.
The basic engineering and components have been used on other models for the last several years. Overall, this design has proven to be very successful. Customers tend to be very satisfied with their purchase, meanwhile service issues have been minimal.
Note: The Nordictrack
E7.1 elliptical trainer typically sells for $799 with free shipping. A good value. Go to www.NordicTrackEllipticals.com for the latest price.*
NordicTrack E7.1 Elliptical Trainer Features...
Power Incline — You'll find this feature on a number of NordicTrack elliptical trainers. It allows you to incline the elliptical stride like you would incline a treadmill. It is sort of like crosstraining up a hill. The advantages are two-fold. First, you get a more intense workout and you can burn more calories in less time. Second, when you vary the incline you target different lower body muscles. Just as you would if you were hiking up a mountain. You can adjust the incline up to a heart pounding 30 degrees.
They mention in the description there is an adjustable stride. Actually, you do not adjust the stride, it adjusts as you increase the incline. This feature further allows you to target different lower body muscles.
iFit Live Compatible — iFit Live allows for two-way communication between your elliptical and the Internet. It also is the most innovative motivational concept found on any cardio fitness equipment. The way it works is you go to iFit.com and create a profile. This profile will include physical stats, but will also include your fitness goals, like losing weight over a certain time period. Based on your goals you can select a personalized workout regimen designed by professional personal trainers, including Jillian Michaels. With every workout your elliptical communicates your progress online. Your next workout will be progressively harder to reach your desired goal. At all times you can view and track your progress online.
In addition to personalized workouts, iFit Live allows you exercise anywhere in the world. Through Google Maps™ you can map your own workout route and your elliptical will simulate the resistance to the contour of the land. With a laptop you can get a satellite, map, earth or street view. There are slots on the elliptical for a laptop or smart phone. I've tried this feature on a treadmill where I ran through my neighborhood. In the process, I could see my neighbor's homes, meanwhile the elliptical mimics the terrain with the resistance. In addition to mapping a route, iFit Live has a library of famous routes in places like popular cityscapes or national parks. There is an additional cost for this feature.
Speakers and MP3 Input — If all you want to do is exercise to your favorite tunes, the NordicTrack E 7.1 is equipped with built-in speakers and the ability to plug-in your iPod or MP3 player. The sound is not bad considering.
Workout Fan — I found out this is one of their more popular features. The fan does a decent job of cooling off your core.
20 Workout Programs — If you don't want to put out the money for iFit Live, you get a decent selection of workout routines that changes up the resistance. I personally use a different program each time I exercise on my elliptical.
Oversize Foot Pedals — The logic behind oversized foot pedals is to allow you to locate your feet where it feels most natural. Furthermore, the pedals offer additional cushioning to further reduce stress to your feet and ankles.
Warranty — The warranty on the NordicTrack E7.1 is average at this price range. You get 1 year parts and labor coverage. You may want to consider additional coverage.
20 Lb. Flywheel — I was actually surprised at the weight of the flywheel. Generally, the heavier the flywheel the more natural the feel of the elliptical stride.
SpaceSaver Design — I've actually folded a similar model, and besides being easy to do, you save about 3' of space. In addition, when folded it makes moving the elliptical trainer much easier.
User Weight Limit — They put it at 300 lbs. I would place it at around 240 lbs.
Our Review — NordicTrack E7.1 Elliptical Trainer
For the price you are not going to find a better built or equipped crosstrainer. I do recommend if you are a hardcore exerciser, or extremely overweight, you'll probably want to upgrade to a more heavy duty machine. Also, if you are over approximately 6'3" you may want to upgrade to the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 PRO with a longer stride length.
Otherwise, the NordicTrack E7.1 is an excellent value buy. It has many of the features you will find on more expensive ellipticals and yet it sells at a very reasonable price.
