NordicTrack 9.0 Elliptical Trainer Review and RatingsNordicTrack is the most innovative fitness company in the world. I say that with no reservations. Being part of the largest fitness conglomerate, Icon Fitness, they have vast resources to develop technology unrivaled in the industry.

The NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer is a perfect example. It has features that offers a challenging workout, in addition to having patented technology designed to motivate you in achieving your fitness goals! Most important is the total package comes at a reasonable price.

Note: Tthe NordicTrack 9.0 elliptical is currently not available. Check out the NordicTrack E 8.0 or the NordicTrack E7.1.

NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer Features...

Declining and Inclining Power Ramp — Inclining power ramps have been available on elliptical trainers for years. The advantage is that by changing the angle of the elliptical stride you can target different muscles groups. The problem with an elliptical with a fixed stride if that you workout limited lower body muscles. Another advantage is when you crank up the incline you get a serious cardio burn. It is sort of like training on a stair stepper without the strain that comes with the reverse motion.

The NordicTrack Elite 9.0 takes concept of the incline feature two steps further. First, you can also decline the elliptical stride. This allows you to tone even more muscles, and simulates going down a hill. In addition, as you increase the incline you increase the stride length from 20" to 22". Once again, in comparison to a fixed stride, the ability to decline and incline, while extending your stride length gives you a much better full body workout.

iFit Live Technology — I mentioned that NordicTrack is one of the most innovative fitness equipment companies in the world. Well iFit live is a prime example. This technology is light years ahead of the competition, and what it does is allows your elliptical to communicate with the Internet. There are primarily two features.

Personalized Workout Programs — You start by defining your fitness goals on ifit.com, such as losing a certain amount of weight or training for a race, and iFit downloads a progressive workout routine that controls the incline of your elliptical and includes audio coaching from personal trainers, including Jillian Michaels. After your workout the NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical feeds back your stats to your online account, allowing to your track your progress. And it has been proven that people who track their progress increase their chances of achieving their goals.

Run the World with Google Maps - This feature of iFit Live is ingenious. You can map out a route on Google Maps and the Elite 9.0 with simulate the terrain. I tried this out when I was at their corporate offices and was running up and down the hilly terrain around my house. By placing a laptop or a smartphone on the console, you can watch your progress. In fact, if it is a route that Google has a street view, you see the sites as if you are actually running down the street. Who comes up with this stuff?

Note: There is an additional cost for this features. There are also 24 pre-installed workout programs that focus on different challenges, but they do not have audio coaching or the ability to track your results.

Heavy Flywheel — The weight of the flywheel impacts the natural feel of the elliptical stride. The Elite 9.0 has a 30 lb. flywheel giving you a smooth and natural elliptical motion. Like jogging in the air.

NordicTrack 12.1 ConsoleAdjustable, Oversized Pedals with Close Proximity — The advantage of a front drive elliptical trainer is that you can place the pedals close together. This is particularly advantageous to woman and shorter individuals who may find discomfort from pedals that are not close together. The oversize cushioned pedals also offer the ability to position your feet where they are most comfortable. In addition, you can adjust the angle of the pedals to further find your comfort zone.

Note: The put the user limit at 350 lbs, I lean towards a more conservative estimate of around 275 lbs.

Wireless Heart Rate Control with Chest Strap — You can let your heart rate determine the rate of your exertion, which is a technique used by professional athletes to optimize their workout.

Built-in Speakers and MP3 Input — NordicTrack tends to have some of the better sound systems found on fitness equipment. Some other brands cheap out on their speaker systems which results in very poor audio quality.

30 Installed Workout Programs — The different programs control the resistance and incline/decline of the elliptical. They target different muscle groups like your glutes, quads, calves and core.

8" Fan — Like the speaker system, NordicTrack does a better than average job putting in a fan that actually offers some relief.

Warranty — Considering the price of the NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer the warranty is impressive and suggests it is a durable machine. There is a lifetime on the frame, 3-years parts and 1-year labor warranty.

Our Review — NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer

Over the last four or five years NordicTrack has been on a mission to offer fitness equipment that out specs the competition while offering motivational technology that is second to none. The NordicTrack Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer is a perfect example. For example, at a comparable price you have the popular Sole E25. It has an incline feature, but does not have the ability to decline or increase the stride length, and the programming technology is primitive in comparison to the Elite 9.0 elliptical trainer. This is why NordicTrack is continually growing their market share.

If you are considering a crosstrainer, the Elite 9.0 Elliptical Trainer requires a serious look. The biomechancial and technological features make it a very attractive package.
