SpaceSaver Elliptical Trainer Review

I
recently tested the NordicTrack SpaceSaver elliptical at the Icon Fitness corporate
offices, and was rather impressed, considering the budget price.
NordicTrack
has always been the leader in fitness equipment innovation, and the StrideSelect
technology is a perfect example. With it you are able to adjust the
stride length and optimize your workout.
Note: As of 8/6/08 the NordicTrack SpaceSaver was selling for $799 with shipping. For more details and a video
demonstration go to the
page.
The StrideSelect offers two important benefits:
- Adjusting
the stride length also allows you to focus your resistance on different parts
of your body. For Example:
- Short Stride You emphasize the
thighs.
- Middle Stride You focus on the hips and abs.
- Long
Stride Your legs stretch and you target the buns.
The
StrideSelect accommodates multiple users at different heights. Logically, if you
are short you want a short stride, and in contrast, a taller user wants a longer
stride. The StrideSelect allows you to adjust to three different lengths.
Folding
Elliptical
The
other unique feature on the NordicTrack SpaceSaver elliptical is that it folds.
It says about 24" of space when it is folded. Not a considerable amount,
but enough to fit it into a corner. The one benefit when the elliptical is folded,
is it makes it easier to move around. Most ellipticals can be a real pain to move.
I had some concerns about the folding feature negatively affecting the
stability, but found that there was no movement at the joints.
Other
SpaceSaver features include:
An Oversize Fan - Most
fans on fitness equipment are so small they are useless. This fan actually cools
you off.
1 Year Parts and Labor Warranty - Many ellipticals in this
price range only cover 90 days. You may want to consider extending the warranty
by 1-2 years to avoid service costs down the road.
8 Exercise Programs
- Enough of a selection to give you variety and motivation.
Handgrip
Pulse Monitor - In addition to monitoring your heart rate the NordicTrack
SpaceSaver will alert you to whether you are in your targeted heart rate zone.
Our Review - NordicTrack SpaceSaver Elliptical Trainer
With
the StrideSelect and folding features, I consider this one of the better values
for under $1,000 (The price was $799 as of 8/13/07). It has a solid and comfortable
stride. It is an ideal machine for those on a limited budget. In addition, I was
told by NordicTrack management the SpaceSaver has a very good service record.
(If you have a different experience please send a review.)
My
only recommendation is if you are over 6', you may want to consider an
elliptical with a 20" stride. I believe the maximum stride length on the
SpaceSaver is 18".
