Precor
EFX 5.17i Elliptical Review
The
Precor EFX 5.17i is their entry level elliptical trainer with the CrosstRamp Technology.
This is their patented adjustable ramp feature. You have the ability to adjust
the angle ramp from 12 to 25 degrees. This allows you to work different muscles
by adjusting the angle. You can isolate and work glutes, quads, hamstrings and
calves.
In addition to this popular feature, you get the quality that goes
into every Precor product. Precor has a reputation for excellence. Their elliptical
trainers hold up well in either a commercial or residential environment.
When
testing the EFX 5.17 I found the stride to be extremely comfortable and natural.
At a 19" stride length there is absolutely no bouncy feeling you experience
with cheaper brands. The machine is extremely quiet, which you come to expect
with both Precor ellipticals and treadmills.
The CrossRamp technology adds
a new dimension to elliptical exercising. When you crank up the angle of the ramp
your heart starts pounding fast. This is an excellent feature for "Interval
Training."
Fitness Source Review - Precor EFX 5.17i
The
popularity of Precor elliptical trainers is due to their CrossRamp technology.
Of course, quality and low maintenance are other important features. The EFX 5.17i
is an opportunity to own that feature without having to take out a second mortgage.
It should be noted that the EFX 5.17i comes with a 10 year parts warranty, which says something about the quality of the components.
The downside of the EFX 5.17i is you do not get the upper body workout.
There are no handlebars on this machine. You sacrifice the upper body exercising
for a superior low-impact cardio workout. However, the reality with most elliptical trainer users, is they tend to just go through the motions with the upper body workout.
An
interesting note, as I was testing a Precor EFX 5.17i at a local fitness equipment
store, a woman walking out said, "I own one and absolutely love it."
Customer Review
I purchased this elliptical machine a few years ago, to alternate with running. I have had other ellipticals; however, this allows me to obtain a high level of perceived exertion when kept at a high resistance, 15 or 16, out of 20. The ability to adjust the incline, allows me to use all muscles in the lower body; focusing on a few at a time if necessary. It is an added bonus if you do not hang onto the handle bars, giving you the ability to also use your inner core muscles for balance.
