Elliptical Machines
Precor
invented the concept and design of elliptical machines. And having patented many
of these designs, other manufacturers have been struggling to compete without
infringing on these patents. What makes a Precor elliptical special and worth
a premium price?
Precor CrossRamp Technology
Although
many fitness equipment companies have been able to come up with slightly alternative
elliptical designs, none have been able to infringe on the CrossRamp patent.
The
CrossRamp technology is a unique feature that allows you to increase or decrease
the crosstrainer ramp angle. Depending on the Precor model, it can be anywhere
from 12 to 30 degrees. This is similar to the incline feature of a treadmill.
By changing you ramp angle you not only intensify the workout, but you
workout different parts of the glutes, quads, hamstrings and claves. The ramp
angle adjustments yield significantly more lower body activity than a treadmill,
stationary bike or stairclimber.
This unique feature is only available
on Precor elliptical machines, except for one exception. Precor licensed the technology
to ProForm, and is used on one of their machines. Of course the difference between
the quality of those two brands is like that of a Kia car and a Acura.
You'll
find that Precor offers two types of elliptical machines, a single and a dual
action model. Their most popular ellipticals are the ones with the CrossRamp technology,
which do not include upper body handle bars.
Due to design limitations,
their lower and upper body residential models do not have the CrossRamp technology.
The ability to get both a lower and upper body workout simultaneously is one of
the major attractions of an elliptical machine. And yet because of the appeal
of the CrossRamp technology, people are willing to forgo that popular feature.
Precor is Synonymous with Quality
Precor
is one of the few American fitness equipment companies that have not moved their
manufacturing facilities overseas. Although getting products built in Taiwan or
China can provide value, in most cases there is some compromise on the quality.
Precor elliptical machines have exceptional stability, combined with a
smooth, quiet operation. And most important they have an outstanding reputation
for being low-maintenance. That is reflected in their 10 year warranty.
Of course the unsurpassed quality and numerous unique patented designs
come with a price. Precor elliptical machines start at approximately $2,500, with
their high-end models exceeding $5,000. You want the best, you have to pay for
it.
