ProForm 10.0 CE Elliptical Trainer Review

2012 Elliptical Trainer Reviews     |     "Best Buy" Elliptical Trainers

ProForm 10.0 CE Treadmill Review and RatingsThe ProForm 10.0 CE elliptical trainer comes with a number of features that makes this an interesting offer. However, realize this is a light weight machine with certain limitations. I would not recommend it for hardcore users, and extremely overweight individuals. If you are in that category you need to consider an elliptical that is in the $1,000+ price range. That said, ProForm makes some of the best budget elliptical machines in the industry.

Note: The ProForm 10.0 CE was selling for $799 with shipping.  Worth a couple of hundred less. Go to www.ProForm.com for the latest price.*

Features on the ProForm 10.0 CE…

Adjustable Stride - This is one of the most interesting features  on the ProForm 10.0 CE. You can shorten or lengthen the stride (16", 18", 20"). Why would you want to adjust the stride? For two reasons...

  1. Being able to adjust the stride length is ideal for elliptical trainers that are being used by multiple users of different heights.
  2. By adjusting the length of the elliptical stride you can target different lower body muscle groups.

Elliptical trainers are often touted as providing a total body workout. Actually, they exercise more muscle groups than just about any other exercise machine, but it is far from total. However, by changing the stride length, you can target more muscles and focus the resistance on specific areas. Here is an example of the different stride lengths and what they emphasize…

16" Stride - You target the thighs.

18" Stride - You focus on the hips and abs.

20" Stride - Your legs stretch and you emphasize the back, legs and buns.

SpaceSaver Technology - When folded you save approximately 3' of space. This is attractive to people living in limited spaces. In addition, when folded the E5Vi is fairly easy to move about.

iFit Live Compatible — iFit Live allows for two-way communication between your ProForm 10.0 CE  and the Internet. The way it works is you go to iFit.com and create a profile. This profile will include your physical stats, but will also include your fitness goals, like losing weight over a certain time period. Based on your goals you can select a personalized workout regimen designed by professional personal trainers, including Jillian Michaels.  Your customized workout is downloaded onto your elliptical trainer and includes audio coaching. With every workout your elliptical communicates your progress online. Your next workout will be progressively harder to reach your desired goal. At all times you can view and track your progress online.

ProForm 10.0 CE ConsoleIn addition to personalized workouts, iFit Live allows you exercise anywhere in the world. Through Google Maps™ you can map your own workout route and your elliptical will simulate the the contour of the land with the resistance. With a laptop you can get a satellite, map, earth or street view. There are slots on the elliptical for a laptop or smart phone. In addition to mapping a route, iFit Live has a library of famous routes in places like popular cityscapes or national parks. There is an additional cost for this feature.

Sound System with MP3 Input - Studies show that music motivates people when they exercise. With the ProForm 10.0 CE  you get decent sound from the speakers, considering the  price.

18 Workout Programs - There are 9 performance workouts and 9 weight-loss workouts.  Having a variety of exercise routines breaks up the monotony of exercising in place.  I recommend to users that they vary their workouts.

Built-in Fan - Mounting a fan is not a costly feature, however, it has proven to be very popular with customers.

Warranty - One year parts and labor.  There are some models at this price range that only offer 90 days coverage.

Our Review — The ProForm 10.0 CE Elliptical Trainer

The ProForm 10.0 CE elliptical trainer has some excellent features for the price.  In particular I like the ability to adjust the stride length and the iFit Live compatibility.  However, you need to be aware that this is a budget elliptical and consequently there are some limitations.

First the ProForm 10.0 CE is not going to have the smooth motion you may be use to at a health club. The flywheel is not all that heavy, which impacts the fluidity of the motion.  Second, the 10.0 CE is not that heavy, consequently it will not have the stability of more expensive models.   I personally would put the weight limit at around 210 lbs.

So I have offered some reasons why not to buy the ProForm 10.0 CE.  Here is the reason to buy it.  If you have limited funds and you want one of the best elliptical trainers for $599, the ProForm 10.0 CE is one of the best buys.
