ProForm 850 Elliptical Review

proFor 850 elliptial reviewThe ProForm 850 is one of the reasons its' parent company, Icon Fitness, dominates the budget market for elliptical trainers. For not alot of money you get a machine that has an impressive array of features. However, as I always warn my readers, at this price range you are buying a budget machine. The ProForm 850 is designed for moderate use, and not strenuous workouts.

I tried this front drive model when I was at the ProForm corporate headquarters and was impressed with the elliptical motion. Granted, its not like a Life Fitness elliptical, but for around $699, it is not bad.

These are the features I like on the ProForm 850 …

nordictrack 850 consoleBuilt-in Speakers and iPod Compatible - Music is a great motivator and with the 850 you have speakers built into the console.

12 Workout Programs - You get a variety of challenging programs to help you lose weight and get into shape. The programs automatically adjust the resistance to simulate different forms of exercising like hill climbing. A selection of programs is a great way to break up the monotony of exercising in place.

Heart Monitor - Most ellipticals have some form of heart monitor, but few have the sensors built into the moveable upper handle bars. This allows you to track your heart rate without having to hold on to stationary handles.

Built-in Video Game - I find this feature of nominal value, but it is different. As you workout you can play a video games with buttons on the handlebars. The harder you work, the easier the game becomes.

Warranty - Usually at this price range you get 90-days parts and labor. The 850 has 1 years parts and labor coverage.

Our Review - ProForm 850 Ellliptical

At $699 with shipping this is not a bad deal. At this budget price you get a nice machine with some decent features. I don't expect this deal to last long. However, as I mentioned above, this is a "budget" machine and is best for moderate workouts - an hour or so a day.

It should be further noted this elliptical has a user weight limit of 275 lbs., I would top out at 225 lbs.

Also, you will probably want to increase the warranty coverage to at least two years. If it breaks, it is their responsibility for two years or more.
