ProForm 890E Elliptical Trainer Review

2012 Elliptical Trainer Reviews     |     "Best Buy" Elliptical Trainers

ProForm 890E Elliptical Trainer ReviewThere are two factors that make the ProForm 890E elliptical trainer appealing.  First the price.  When on sale you can get it below $700 with shipping.  That is not a whole lot of money to spend on cardio equipment.  The other reason are the numerous features.  This is where ProForm excels, and why it is one of the most popular fitness equipment brands on the planet.  ProForm typically offers more for less.

Of course, you may be getting a number of bells and whistle, but you need to realize this is not a heavy duty crosstrainer.  It has its' limitation, meaning it is not the most stable or durable machine on the market.  But that said, it is a bargain.

ProForm 890E Elliptical Trainer Features...

ProForm 890E InclinePower Incline Ramp — This is probably the most notably feature on the ProForm 890E elliptical.  You can adjust the ramp from 10-30 degrees.  What are the benefits? First, when you crank up the ramp you get a more intense cardio workout.  Sort of like kicking up the incline on a treadmill.  At a 30 degree incline you will be sweating bullets in no time. Second, at different inclines you target different lower body muscles.  Higher inclines will focus on your calves and abs. Lower inclines target your glutes and quads. Also, as you raise the incline you increase the stride length.

iFit Card Technology — At an additional cost you can get a series of cards you insert into your elliptical.  They include  progressive workouts that focus on different fitness goals like weight loss and cardio training.  These workouts are designed by professional fitness trainers.  In fact, there is a series by "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels.  Each card controls the resistance of your elliptical trainer and provides motivational audio coaching.  You can have Jillian Michaels bullying you into shape right in your home.

ProForm 890E consoleSpeakers and iPod Input — There are speakers built into the console and you can plug in you iPod or MP3 player.  Music is proven to be a motivator when exercising.  With built-in speakers you have the apex pointing right at you.  The sound is better than a number of other brands that offer this feature.

Built-in Fan — Although not a costly add-on, this feature is one of the most popular with customers.  That advantage of a console equipped fan is that it points directly at your core, which is what you most want to cool down.

20 Installed Exercise Programs — There are 6 programs designed primarily for weight loss and 14 performance programs.  Each are designed by a certified personal trainer.  The advantage of having a variety of challenges that you can alternate is that you break up the monotony of exercising in place.

Our Review — ProForm 890E Elliptical Trainer

I'll be blunt, if you can afford it, buy a more heavy duty and durable elliptical trainer.  This machine has some limitations.  Also, I would not recommend this elliptical for someone over 250 lbs.  Now I know there are individuals that are over that weight limit and have had no problems with the ProForm 890E, but this is not commercial grade.

That said, if your budget is limited, or you are not sure about your long-term commitment to get back into shape, you are probably not going to find a better value for the price.  You certainly are not going to find an elliptical with more features for the price.   There is a reason why ProForm dominates this price bracket of fitness equipment.
