ProForm 900 Elliptical Trainer Review
If you have a limited budget, yet really want an elliptical trainer, don’t settle for just any low priced machine. The ProForm 900 elliptical trainer is affordable AND it is probably one of the best low-end models on the market.
Of course, the ProForm 900 IS a budget elliptical trainer, so be aware that it does have its limitations. Nonetheless, for an elliptical in its price range, this particular unit has some nice features and better-than-average warranties to back it.

Features of the ProForm 900 Elliptical Trainer
Some elliptical trainers take up a lot of space. The space saving ProForm 900 elliptical trainer has a smaller footprint and can fit into smaller areas. Similar to the ProForm Stride Select elliptical trainer in price, size, and appearance, the ProForm 900 is backed by a lifetime frame warranty and a one-year parts and labor warranty.
Although the ProForm 900 is not set up with iFit technology as the Stride Select model is, it does come with some comparable features, including:
L.E.D. Pacing Coach – This feature is sort of like having a personal trainer built right into the unit. The LED light-line tells you when to pick up the pace or slow down during your workouts.
- Preset Programs – With 8 personal trainer workouts and two heart rate workouts built into the machine, workouts never have to be boring and tedious. There’s enough variety to keep you motivated and on track to reach your fitness goals.
- Heart Rate Monitor – Handgrip sensors built into the handlebars make it easy to monitor your heart rate to make sure you’re working within your designated heart rate zone.
- Workout Fan – Strenuous exercise can really cause you to work up a good sweat. The built-in cooling fan helps keep you comfortable throughout your workouts.
- Upper-body Workout Arms – The ProForm 900 elliptical trainer has movable handlebars that allow you to get a good upper body workout while you also work the lower body. As a result, you can get efficient total body workouts that strengthen and tone, burn calories, and improve endurance.
- LCD Display- The single LCD display window shows time, distance, speed, calories, and pulse to easily monitor your workout progress.
- Adjustable Stride – Choose from three different stride positions for maximum comfort and to target muscles differently.
- Maximum User Weight – Suggested user weight capacity is 275 lbs. However, for optimal stability and comfort, users probably should not exceed 200 pounds.
Our Review – The ProForm 900 Elliptical Trainer
The ProForm 900 Elliptical Trainer by Icon Fitness is one of the better elliptical machines in its price category. It offers some of the benefits of a more expensive elliptical trainer (such as a variety of built-in workout programs and an adjustable stride) at a fraction of the cost.
For about the same price, you might also consider the ProForm Stride Select. It is very similar to the ProForm 900, but it offers even more variety in workout programs. The Stride Select is also equipped with iFit technology and an MP3 docking station.
Of course, the ProForm 900 elliptical trainer isn’t quite as sturdy and durable as heavier, higher end models. It probably isn’t going to run as smoothly or last as long without requiring some maintenance as the more expensive units.
Pay close attention to the maximum user weight. If any users in your household exceed the maximum weight capacity, you’d be better off saving up a bit more money to buy a higher quality elliptical machine.
