ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer Review From what I can tell the ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 elliptical trainer is an exact duplicate of the NordicTrack A.C.T., except it does not have iFit technology. However, at the writing of this review, the CrossWalk 8.0 was selling for $100 less. Both ProForm and NordicTrack are built by Icon Fitness.
The NordicTrack A.C.T. has been a hot seller. Initially they were selling it for over $1,500, which was a rip, but once they go the price below $1,000 it was one of their most popular elliptical trainers.
Note: Here is the deal. This model does not show up on the list of available ellipticals on ProForm.com, but the link that goes directly to the product page is still active. At $699 with shipping the ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 elliptical trainer is one of their best values. Go to ProFormEllipticals.com to see if it is still offered.
Features on the ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer
Center Drive Design - Most ellipticals are either front or rear drive designed. The center drive is getting to be more popular. The center design of the elliptical mechanism tends to better center an individual while they exercise. It is a more natural positioning. And unlike a front drive design, you don't have the pedals sitting on rollers that are more likely to wear out.
Compact Design - Elliptical trainers can take up considerable space. Some models have very long lengths, particularly front wheel designs. Of course, there are some very compact rear wheel designs, but they are usually cheap models that are not very stable. The center design condenses the mechanics and results in a machine that is only 47" long. In comparison, the Sole E95 is 82" in length.
18" - 22"" Adjustable Stride - The benefits of an adjustable stride is that you can get a more complete lower body workout. At different stride lengths you tend to focus your exercise on different parts of your leg muscles.
The other advantage of the adjustable stride on the ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 is the fact that it can accommodate different users of different heights. The 18" - 22" lengths make it ideal for average to above average height users.
More Stable - Unless you get a very heavy model, many elliptical trainers are not that stable. They may tend to rock, especially during a strenuous workout. The center drive ellipticals have a square base that contributes to a solid, stable feel.
Close
Pedal Distance - One additional advantage to the center design of the NordicTrack A.C.T. is the pedal distance. They are closer than many models. This is an attractive feature to females of average to below average height. Many complain about the discomfort of the pedal distance of many front and rear drive ellipticals.
In addition to the above features you also get a built-in cooling fan and speakers with MP3 input. There are also 20 workout programs that focus on aerobic, weight loss, or performance goals.
Our Review - ProForm CrossWalk 8.0 Elliptical Trainer
When I tested the NordicTrack version at the Icon Fitness corporate headquarters I was impressed. I thought the initial $1,500 price tag was too high. Now that both the A.C.T. and the CrossWalk 8.0 are selling for under $1,000, this is one of the better values in the budget price range.
The center elliptical mechanism, adjustable stride and compact design make this model a winner.
Customer Review for the NordicTrack A.C.T.
Great machine. Very stable and comfortable for a medium sized female adult, male adult and teenager. Good programs. Very compact as advertised. They are selling them for $1000.00 at Sears, but with no extended warranty $200.00 shipping cost. You can call up Nordic Track and they will give you the same price with no charge for shipping and you can buy an extended warranty. Excellent machine, I love it.
