SpaceSaver DX Elliptical Review
The ProForm SpaceSaver DX offers both a folding feature and the ability to manually adjust the incline. The SpaceSaver DX is actually a slightly different version of the popular NordicTrack AudioStrider 800. Both ProForm and NordicTrack ellipticals are built by Icon Fitness.
There is also a power incline version of these two models called the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990. I gave this particular model a "Best Buy" for both features and value.
So should you consider buying the ProForm SpaceSaver DX? If you have a limited budget and you want an elliptical that offers variation beyond most elliptical machines, the answer is Yes!

The ProForm SpaceSaver DX Elliptical Trainer Features.
Adjustable Incline - Having the ability to adjust the incline on an elliptical trainer adds a new dimension to your workout. It works out different parts of your body. You can set the incline at three levels. At 10% incline you focus on your glutes, 20% your quads and 30% your calves. And like a treadmill, when you crank up the incline you increase the level of exertion, thus burning more calories and fat. The downside is the incline is manual, which means you have to get off the machine if you want to make an adjustment.
Folding Design - For those with limited space, the folding feature is beneficial. When folded the ProForm SpaceSaver DX saves approximately 2'. Furthermore, when you fold the DX it makes it easier to move and maneuver. I was concerned about the folding feature affecting the stability of the elliptical, however I found it was overall a sturdy machine for the price.
6 Programs & 2 Heart Rate Workouts - You get 6 preprogrammed workouts that offer different challenges, like interval training, fat burn and hill climbing. There are also 2 heart rate workouts, that control the resistance of the machine based on your heart rate. This is a proven technique to optimize your workout. The problem is you have to hold on to the stationary handlebars to use this feature, which negates the benefits of the upper body workout.
2 Built-in Fan - The reason I mention this inexpensive feature is the fact it is a popular item. It points at your chest, because it is proven that cooling down your core will allow you to extend your exercising.
Speaker System - There are built-in speakers, with a MP3 plug-in. You are not going to get the quality of a home entertainment system, but you are going to have the apex of the sound directed right at you. Music is recognized an excellent motivator when exercising.
Our Review - ProForm SpaceSaver DX
I would say because of the price and the incline feature, this elliptical offers a good value. There are a couple of points to bring up:
- This is a budget elliptical, built with budget components. It is designed for moderate use. If you are an exercise fanatic, you'll want to consider buying a more heavy-duty machine.
- I believe the stride is 18", which means it will accommodate average height users. For tall individuals you may want to consider a machine with a 20".
- ProForm list the user weight limit at 300 lbs. I feel most manufacturers push the limit. I would set it at around 230 lbs.
- The warranty is 1-year parts and labor. To protect your investment you may want to increase that by a year or two.
- If you prefer having a power incline, so you can make changes on the fly, consider the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990.
- You may also want to compare the features of the NordicTrack AudioStrider 800. They usually sell for the same price, the difference is the 800 has the iFIT technology.
In conclusion, for a budget elliptical trainer this is probably one of the best value available.
