The Smooth Agile DMT X2 is the residential version of the Smooth Agile DMT.  It is also the upgrade of the Agile DMT X1, and includes an LED console and attached speakers.  The Dynamic Motion Trainer technology has become a big seller for Smooth and consequently they are now offering 5 different DMT models.

What the Smooth Agile DMT offers is a variety of motions, rather than one fixed elliptical motions.  The advantage is you get a more complete workout, where you exercise more of your lower and upper body muscles.

Although you get less impact and stress with an elliptical over a treadmill, the repetitive motion does have some drawbacks. Only certain muscles are utilized, while others are ignored.  An elliptical focuses pressure on a select lower body muscles.  This can lead to stress and strain to your knees and shins.  This is particularly true with ellipticals that have short bouncy strides.

With the twelve different motions found on the Smooth Agile DMT X2 you can target different muscles, thus allowing you to firm fat and shape different parts of your legs.  According to Smooth, ” These additional levels of movement recruit more muscle groups to the workout, which creates a more rounded and productive workout."

Another problem with elliptical trainers is the upper body workout is very limited.  In fact, the majority of people who exercise on an elliptical trainer tend to go through the motions with the upper body handlebars.  Unless the user puts a concentrated effort into the upper body resistance, the results are minimal.  Once again, because of the variety of fluid motions found on the Smooth Agile DMT X2, you tend to concentrate more exercise with your abdominals and your arms. 

When used properly the Agile DMT X2 can provide more results in less time.
 
Surefit Pedal Motion

One of my complaints when I exercise on my elliptical is the repetitive lift of my foot.  Even though my machine has articulating footpedals, I still get the constant impact of heal to pedal, which also causes stress to my arches and ankles.  The design of the foot pedals on the Agile X1 do a better job of moving  with the natural rotation of the ankle, thus  eliminating much of the pressure on the ball of your foot.

Our Review - Smooth Fitness Agile DMT X2

I sense the traditional elliptical trainer with a singular fixed motion will one day be outmoded.  There are a number of manufacturers who are offering alternatives that provide a more complete workout.  The Smooth Agile DMT design is one of the top contenders, and that is why the various DMT models have become such a hot seller. 

If you have a lot of money to spend, than the commercial grade Smooth Agile DMT is a excellent choice.  If you want to save money and still get a heavy-duty residential version, both the Agile DMT X1 and the Agile DMT X2 are great alternatives.  All of these models are built to be durable, solid and stable.  The feedback I get is that they have a good service record.  If you want the upgraded LED console and built-in speakers, than the Agile DMT X2 is the choice.  It normally cost about $300 more than the  X1.
