Smooth
CE Plus Elliptical Trainer Review
The
Smooth CE Plus elliptical trainer is an upgraded version of
the Smooth CE, which they have sold for the last 6 years.
Both models are actually a private label of Kettler
elliptical trainers. Kettler is a multi-billion dollar
company known for selling quality products.
That is why when Smooth refers to quality German construction,
they are referring to Kettler. The Kettler elliptical trainers
are solid and durable machines. They are equipped with a heavy
flywheel (50 lbs. on the CE Plus), which gives them a very
smooth elliptical motion. Their service record is impressive,
and generally requires little maintenance. The design is very
compact, a plus for those with limited space. The only complaint
on the older CE was the short 16" stride length. In comparison,
the CE Plus has a longer 19" stride.
So is the Smooth CE Plus a good value?
I
could be wrong, but it appears the Plus is the same as the
Kettler Ergometer EXT7 elliptical, which is only sold in Europe.
I found it at this site. http://www.fitnessoptions.co.uk/.
I also found it for sale at a German web site. If that is
the case, the Smooth version is selling for considerably more
when you convert pounds or Euros to dollars.
It should be noted that there is not a lot of margin to sell
at a discount when you private label a product. The other
three ellipticals (CE 2.1,
EVO Rev 400, CE 7.4) are manufactured
in Taiwan/China, specifically for Smooth. They buy numerous
containers of these products at a time. That is why I would
recommend the Smooth CE 7.4
as a better value. Smooth has significantly larger margins
to sell at a discount.
I should footnote my comments by saying, if you find the
Smooth CE Plus for under $2,000, with shipping, then it would
be worth considering. Overall, it is an excellent machine
that should provide trouble free workouts. And for individuals
with limited space, the CE Plus offers a compact footprint.
