A compact footprint. The Smooth CE is 57" in length by 22" in width. Most machines with this small of a footprint are more like toys. They are not built to last like the CE. The machine is very compact and yet the quality of the elliptical motion is comparable to machines that take up considerable more space. In addition, the 200 lbs weight adds to the stability.
It is equipped with adjustable foot plates allows the user to adjust the foot placement for individuals of all heights

This elliptical is actually built by Kettler and private labeled for Smooth. Does that mean if you buy a comparable model from Kettler you will save money? Not necessarily. If it is on sale, the price can be very competitive. In addition, you are buying from Smooth, which has a good reputation for customer service.

The Smooth CE has been a solid performer, with a good service record. There are two criticisms. First, the console and display is somewhat dated. Smooth has not updated the console in years. Second, the 18" stride can feel restricting to anyone over 5'10".

I believe the newer elliptical trainers from Smooth offer much better value, particularly the Smooth 3.2. It includes a longer stride, upgraded console and a better selection of programs.

At this price range you may also want to consider the Sole E55 or the Sole E95. They come with a two year service warranty.
