E55
When
I recently tested the Sole E75 Elliptical Trainer I was very impressed with the
overall quality. Once I started up the machine I immediately could tell that this
was a well constructed crosstrainer, and consisted of quality components. The
impression is support with a 5 year parts and 2 year labor warranty.
The
E75 weighs in at near 200 lbs. The good news is it is sturdy and solid, the bad
news is don't plan on easily moving it around, particularly from one floor to
another. Much of the weight is the heavy flywheel, which weighs 30 lbs. When combined
with the eddy current brake system, you get a very smooth and fluid motion. What
really suggests quality is when you stop the Sole E75 and it gradually slows down.
Note: Sole runs occasional sales. If you find the E75 at $1,499
or less that should be considered a good value.

Besides the
smooth elliptical motion, I appreciated the 20" stride length. This should
be standard on every elliptical trainer. It just feels more natural. When you
get on an elliptical with a smaller stride length you feel constrained. To get
the most reward out of your workout you want a comfortable stride.
As we
mentioned in the Sole Elliptical Trainer Review we have seen better layout and
display for consoles, but it is adequate, and when you factor all the other excellent
features it hardly distracts from the overall value.

For
me the best value in an elliptical trainer is to find one that is well built,
feels sturdy and has an exacting elliptical motion. And I want those features
without having to take out a second mortgage. When you get below $1,000 you are
buying machines that compromise on the quality of the components and are just
built to withstand strenuous use. On the other hand I don't need a commercial
grade elliptical. The E75 elliptical is a heavy duty machine without the heavy
duty price.
Are their better elliptical trainers? Of course. The Precor
and the Life Fitness ellipticals blow away the Sole, but they cost at least a
couple of thousand more. The Sole E75 is one of the best machines in the $1,500
price range. It is a value proposition when you factor the features, the quality
and the warranty.
There is one concern about the E75, it is a relatively
new elliptical. But there are two considerations that suggest this machine is
durable. First, it is made by the same company that makes the top rated Sole Treadmills.
These treadmills are used for in-room exercising in the Hilton chain and their
subsidiaries.
Second, the Sole elliptical trainers come with the best
warranty available - period. For example Life Fitness, which cost considerabley
more, only offers a 3 year parts and 1 year labor warranty.
