Spirit Fitness XE 150 Elliptical Trainer Review

Spirit XE 150 elliptical trainer reviewIf you read my reviews of Sole elliptical trainers, you know that I believe it is one of the better values in its price range. It just so happens, Spirit is built by the same company that makes Sole, Dyaco. There are numerous similarities, in fact, they use many of the same components; have similar designs, and offer the same extended warranties.

So why have two companies building similar products? The two companies are targeting two different markets. Sole is sold at large sporting goods stores like, Dick's Sporting Goods. Spirit is sold through specialty fitness equipment stores. These different markets go after a different clientele. Stores like Dicks are low on price and short on customer service. Specialty fitness stores are high on price and generally have excellent customer service.

The Spirit XE 150 elliptical trainer appears to be very similar to the Sole E35. Both have the following:

  • Spirit XE 150 consoleLong 20" elliptical stride. One of the longest strides at this price range. For anyone who is of average height or above, you will appreciate the longer stride.

  • Four wheels that ride on heavy-duty rails, providing a smooth, stable feel. The four wheels give you less side-to-side motion.

  • A 30 lb flywheel, which also contributes to the smooth motion. The Spirit XE 150 is like higher priced ellipticals in the way it gradually starts up and slows down as a result of the heavy flywheel.

  • The elliptical itself, weighs a hefty 190 pounds, and is a long 82". Both features contribute to the stability and a very solid feel.

  • Like the Sole, the Spirit XE 150 comes with a 5-year parts and 2-year labor warranty. One of the longer service warranties in the industry. A major reason to consider either brand.

  • Finally, both ellipticals have very good service records. From the feedback I get from salespeople and customers, both brands are very durable. That's why they can afford to offer a 2-year labor warranty.

Our Review of the Spirit XE 150

You can't go wrong with the Spirit XE 150. It is a good solid machine, with an excellent service track record. The elliptical workout is similar to much higher priced products. My only complaint with Spirit is you cannot order direct from their site. Moreover, their retail distribution is very limited.
