Spirit ZE120 Elliptical Trainer Review

spirit fitness ze1120 elliptical trainer reviewI worked for a company that private labeled Spirit fitness equipment, and in general they were very reliable machines. I was talking to a salesrep at a fitness equipment store about the Spirit ellipticals and he mentioned they had very few service issues. The models in the $1,200-$2,000 price range tend to be durable and reliable.

The Spirit ZE120 elliptical trainer is an upgrade from the Spirit ZE110. Both come with a heavy 24 lb. flywheel, contributing to a smooth elliptical motion. For $200 more than the ZE110, you get the following features on the ZE120...

Note: Comparable models to check out are the Sole E35 and the NordicTrack Elite 1300. The Sole E35 is built by the same company that manufactures Spirit. The E35 comes with a 2-year service warranty.

The ZE110 is possibly a better choice for someone under 5'4", but the ZE120 is better designed for average or tall individuals.
  • The ZE120 has a two-wheel rail track system that minimizes side-to-side movement. This is a design you are more likely to find on higher price ellipticals. Each footpedal rides on two-wheels, causing less shifting and reducing wear.
  • The Spirit ZE120 elliptical has a backlit LCD display. Although not the quality of a LED display, the backlit LCD makes reading feedback easier on the eyes.
  • You get a 5-year parts warranty in comparison to 3-years on the ZE110, and 3-years on the brake system in comparison to 1-year. For slightly more than $1,000, the 5-year parts coverage is one of the more generous elliptical warranties.

Our Review of the Spirit ZE120

Spirit is known for making quality equipment. I was recently at a fitness equipment specialty store that sold Spirit ellipticals. Fred, the salesperson said they can't keep them in stock. He also mentioned the service record has been impressive - minor issues at the most.

At $1,200 I can comfortably recommend this elliptical for moderate use. For exercise fanatics or for multiple users, you may want to upgrade to either one of the more expensive Spirit or Sole elliptical trainers.

Customer Reviews - Amazon.com

The three customers that reviewed the Spirit ZE120, gave it five stars out of five. A couple reviewers mentioned they bought the elliptical for $799 back in February. That was an incredible sale price, but from my research $1,099 with shipping was the lowest price I could find. Below is one review.

Great Unit,

Have had my unit for over a month now. Took about 1 1/2 hrs. to put together. This is a great unit, extremely well built and has a great 5 year parts warranty, with lifetime frame. Did allot of research. Spirit products are rated very highly. What sold me on this one versus the XE line was the shorter 65" base footprint, but with 20" stride capability. I have limited space so the shorter footprint is appreciated. A great buy, works flawlessly, and wow what a work out. Been a lifetime runner, but this thing really gives me a workout! Also appreciate that it reverses which uses different muscles.
