Weslo Momentum 220 X Elliptical Trainer Review
The Weslo Momentum 220 X elliptical trainer is what a refer to as a throw-away exercise machine. If it breaks it's not worth fixing, so you may as well throw it away. It is also one of those bargain ellipticls that have a tendency to end up as a clothe rack.
Icon Fitness sells thousands of these machines. Why? Because they are so cheap and are found in popular mass merchant stores.
Reasons you would want to buy the Weslo Momentum 220 X elliptical trainer...
It is obvious we have a overweight crisis in this country (and other countries too). Most overweight people realize they need to exercise in order to lose weight. And the $300 price tag on an elliptical like the Weslo Momentum 220 X sounds like a low risk investment. Especially, if someone is not confident they will actually use the machine.
Reasons you don't want to buy the Weslo Momentum 220 X elliptical trainer...
Cheap Components - Think about it. The Momentum 220 X cost $300 with free shipping on the weslo.com web site. Shipping cost the manufacturer about $50, that leave only $250 for the price of labor, components and profit. Which means this elliptical is built with dirt cheap components.
Light Weight - This is not a very stable or sturdy elliptical trainer. For $300 what would you expect. I would not recommend this elliptical to anyone over 170 lbs.
Bouncy Elliptical Stride - Although it is rated an 18" stride, you will find the motion bouncy.
90-Day Warranty - A 90 day warranty suggests the Weslo Momentum 220 X is not built to last. You definitely want to consider getting and extended warranty.
Who should buy the Weslo Momentum 220 X?
Someone who does not weigh over 170 lbs., has a very limited budget and will not use the elliptical daily. There are people that buy this machine and never have any problems. However, when you start getting below the $500 price tag, you end up with a piece of fitness equipment that has an increase chance of breaking down and having service issues. You get what you pay for.
As I mentioned, Weslo is built by Icon Fitness. They are the largest fitness equipment company in the world. And they build some of the best budget elliptical trainers in the market. My recommendation is you check out two of their other brands - ProForm & NordicTrack. If you can afford it, spend in excess of $700, and focus on the sales items.
If you are serious about losing weight and getting back into shape, buy and elliptical trainer that will last as you burn those calories and get fit and trim.
