If you’re in the market for a high-quality home gym and are prepared to spend a minimum of $2K, take a look at the Bowflex Revolution home gym. Its innovative design has received great reviews from individuals who bought this home gym. Even some experienced body builders have praised the Bowflex Revolution!
However, this is not like exercising with free weights.
What makes the Bowflex Revolution home gym different?
Unlike most home gyms that take up a lot of space, the Bowflex Revolution home gym has a space-saving design. This is a bonus, considering that many homes are limited on space. It also features SpiraFlex® resistance technology. Up to 220 pounds of resistance provide benefits equal to those derived from free weights.

Pros of the Bowflex Revolution Home Gym
Over 100 Different Exercises - It’s sort of like having an entire gym in one unit! Exercises include upper body workouts, lower body workouts, abdominal exercises, and cardio workouts. It really gives a full body workout.
Below is a list of features that are included with the Bowflex Revolution:
Upper Body Workouts - You will find just about every exercise you would get at a health club. One of the unique features is the "The Freedom Arms". They adjust 170° to work muscles from various angles. You also get a "Preacher Curl" attachment to isolate your biceps and work your upper arms more efficiently than is possible with free weights
- Lower Body Workouts - Normally the leg press is an expensive add-on on most home gyms. With the Revolution you can get up to 600 lbs. of resistance, (with upgrade).
- Core and Abs Workout - You get a good selection of stomach workouts so you can exercise all areas of your abs.
- Cardio Workout - There is a built-in rowing machine for calorie-burning. This is what I particularly like about this machine. It not only offers strength exercises, but a cardio workout, giving you a well rounded workout.
Compact Design - I have a home gym that uses it weights and it occupies a good portion of my garage. The BowFlex Revolution takes up an area of 112" x 38". It is rather long, but it is slim.
Cons of the Bowflex Revolution Home Gym
Not Free Weights - The Revolution works with resistance, and has a different feel. Some body builders complained about the difference.
Assembly - The Revolution takes some effort to assemble. Plan on several hours to get it together.
10 Pound Weight Increments - There was a complaint about the fact you can only increase or decrease the weight by 10 pounds. Although, that is the same as many home gyms that use weights.
Our Review – The Bowflex Revolution Home Gym
The Bowflex Revolution is a nice machine. It’s rather expensive, though, for a home gym. People who have invested in this home gym have generally been quite pleased with their investments.
The resistance technology that makes the Bowflex Revolution unique may take some getting used to…especially, if you are accustomed to using free weights. Nevertheless, this technology seems to work really well for strengthening, toning, and building muscle. Use this gym to do rowing exercises, and you’ll also get a great cardio workout.
To reach your fitness goals, you don’t need a lot of different kinds of equipment. You can train every part of your body with the Bowflex Revolution. This may be the most complete strength machine on the market.
Customer Reviews
On Amazon.com the Bowflex Revolution received four out of five stars. Most people gave very positive reviews and were impressed with the results. A couple complained about the quality of the construction and the assembly. One individual warned about buying from an unauthorized dealer. In which case Bowflex will not back the warranty.
On Epinions.com the Bowflex Revolution got the same four out of five stars. Once again there were a couple of complaints about the construction. Two customers had issues with the expediency of the delivery. The majority were very satisfied with the product.
One last note. Popular Mechanics had these comments...
Low-Orbit Workout
“We don't normally endorse anything sold via infomercials. But testing is believing and the Bowflex Revolution is the first Bowflex we've tried that lives up to its own hype. Using plates filled with coiling elastic straps - technology developed to fight muscle atrosphy suffered by the International Space Station's occupants - this compact gym provides, smooth constant resistance for a huge range of exercises. The resistance plates are useful for isolating muscles and avoiding potential injuries, making this machine a perfect fit for physical therapy as well as standard workouts. The gym's footprint shrinks to 55x37 in. with the arms and bench folded - small enough for an apartment, or possibly a space station.”
