Powertec Workbench Levergym –
a Compact but Comprehensive Home Gym

2012 Elliptical Trainer Reviews     |     "Best Buy" Elliptical Trainers

The Powertec WB-LS Workbench Levergym has a lot going for it. It may not have everything a seasoned bodybuilder would want but for most folks it has more than enough functionality to get you the strength gains you want.

First off, the Powertec Levergym is a leverage gym which means weight plates are loaded directly on the machine so you get a more natural feel when compared to using the more popular style of home gym that uses a stack weight system with pulleys and cables. If you already do barbell work you’ll appreciate the difference in feel between using a leverage weight versus stack weight system.

Note: The Powertec Workbench Levergym is available for $999 at www.Amazon.com/Powertec. There are several positive reviews.

Of course, with the elimination of most pulleys and cables you’ll also be cutting down on the cost of maintenance.

The gym itself is built around a bench with a lever arm. The lever arm replaces barbell weights and bar. You get the same resistance but you train in a totally safe environment. Unlike barbell training you don’t require a spotter. Knowing that you’re not going to crush your chest or neck means you have the confidence to train for longer or work with heavier weights to get the results you want more quickly.

The Powertec Workbench Levergym is also very compact, especially when compared to more bulky, traditional home gyms. But don’t think that being smaller means it isn’t up to the job. The Lever Press arm can take 500 lbs, while the Lat Pulldown and Leg Curl handle 300 lbs and 200 lbs.

The 3” heavy-gauge, tubular frame also comes with a lifetime warranty and is finished in either Black or the company’s trademark Yellow. The bench features high-density foam with a tough, double stitched vinyl covering. It’s been built to last no matter how hard you train and it comes with a good warranty.

You can perform 20 different exercises on this Powertec leverage gym. What? I hear you thinking. Other gyms boast of over 100 exercises! Don’t be fooled; most of these exercises don’t produce any desired results. The 20 you get with the Levergym are the best exercises you can do to build muscle. These core exercises include rows, bench press, full squats and dead lifts. In fact, there’s no part of your body you can’t work on.

The Levergym is part of the Workbench series from Powertec. The company has done a great job is modularizing its home gyms. With this gym you can easily and quickly detach the bench so you can perform squats and shrugs as well as tricep work with the Lat Pulldown. You can also accessorize the bench itself. For instance, you can add on optional Leg Press, Leg Lift, Curl and Dip Machine extensions.

Overall the Powertec Levergym is a winner is most respects. Perhaps serious bodybuilders would not choose to buy it – most seem to prefer a power cage and barbell work – but most of us are just looking for weight training to stay in shape and for this purpose this is an excellent home gym.
