Elliptical Trainer Review
Tunturi
Elliptical Trainers are built in Finland, which suggests that you are going to
get that Nordic obsession for quality. The company has been in business for 80
years. In addition to ellipticals they sell exercise bikes, steppers and treadmills.
Their exercise bikes are considered some of the best in their price range.
They
are a major brand in Europe and have a moderate market share in the US. That does
not mean their machines are inferior to other popular brands like ProForm, Reebok
or Nordic Track. They just do not have the market exposure as some of the major
players.
Their ellipticals have one of the widest price ranges of any elliptical
trainer manufacturer, with their C10 going for $699 and their high-end C85 selling
for $2899.
The Tunturi ellipticals remind me of Kettler ellipticals. They
are both compact with heavy flywheels, providing for a smooth elliptical motion.
The low-end models are short on features, but make up for it with better quality
in their price range.
As we mentioned their models cover a wide price range,
in fact, there are eight different models.
Tunturi Pricing (Mercantila
4/16/06)
C10 - $700
C20 - $800
C30 - $900
C35 - $1,000
C40
- $1,100
C60 - $1,399
C80 - $2,299
C85 - $2,900
The Tunturi C10,
C20, C30 and C35 are their budget models weighing 108 and 128 lbs. The display
is very basic and there is only manual programming. The resistance is based on
a manually adjustable permanent magnet.
If you have the money we recommend
you move up to the C40 and higher models. You start getting a better resistance
magnet system and an improve console and display. You also get a better selection
of programs and programming. For example, the C40 has 8 scaleable pre-set profiles.
It also has a servomotor controlled permanent magnet brake resistance system.
You'll find the elliptical motion has a very smooth feeling. It is very quiet
since there are no moving or wearing parts. Generally very low maintenance.
With
the C80 and C85 you are getting commercial quality, but if you have the money
it can be a good choice for residential use. The C85 has one of the best displays
in the industries. Both machines weigh a solid 230 lbs. Don't plan to move this
yourself.

Source Review - Tunturi Elliptical Trainers
Like their popular exercise
bikes, the Tunturi elliptical trainers are quality built with a good service record.
As mentioned above we suggest you start at theC40 level or above. If you have
a limited budget the lesser models are a good value and are better quality than
the Icon products like ProForm or Weslo. The difference is you get very limited
features.
Regarding their commercial quality treadmills, they are excellent
machines, but at that price range you may want to consider Precor or LifeFitness.
